What Is the CAGE Method? How It Reveals Hidden Trauma Loops
Nov 12, 2025Every person carries an internal architecture of protection — the ways we brace, hide, overperform, or disconnect to feel safe. For many women, those defenses run on autopilot, quietly shaping behavior, relationships, and self-worth.
You might appear confident yet feel chronically unsafe in your body. You might achieve success but still fear being “too much” or “not enough.” You might crave intimacy but keep people at arm’s length.

These are what I call hidden trauma loops — old adaptive patterns that were once lifesaving but now limit your freedom.
The CAGE Talks was born from decades of clinical work with trauma survivors who wanted more than coping tools. They wanted transformation — to stop circling the same emotional patterns and finally live free
The Meaning Behind the “CAGE”
The acronym CAGE stands for four stages of trauma healing and liberation:
C — Confront the Cage
A — Acknowledge and Allow
G — Generate New Energy
E — Embrace Your Expansion
Each stage helps reveal and release the unconscious loops that keep you confined. The name is deliberate — because until you see the cage you’re in, you can’t leave it.
The method works somatically (through the body), psychologically (through awareness), and energetically (through presence). It’s not about fixing what’s broken; it’s about reclaiming what’s alive.
Let’s look at each step in depth.
Step 1: Confront the Cage
Most people don’t realize they’re living inside a cage until they bump into its walls. The “cage” is any pattern of contraction — a way your body or behavior keeps you safe but small.
For example:
- Saying yes when you mean no.
- Feeling responsible for everyone’s emotions.
- Numbing out when you need to speak up.
- Staying busy to avoid feeling.
These aren’t character flaws; they’re survival responses. Your body learned early that safety came from compliance, control, or invisibility.
Confronting the cage means telling the truth about those patterns without judgment. You begin to ask:
“How do I shrink or self-protect when I feel threatened?”
“What am I afraid will happen if I stop managing everything?”
Awareness is the first crack in the wall.

Step 2: Acknowledge and Allow
Once you’ve named the cage, the next step is to meet what’s inside it. This is where trauma healing moves from the mind to the body.
Acknowledgment doesn’t mean reliving the past — it means allowing the sensations, emotions, and beliefs that have been suppressed to surface safely.
In this stage, I guide clients to slow down and feel their body’s truth:
- The tightness in the chest that says, “I can’t breathe.”
- The pressure in the gut that whispers, “It’s not safe to relax.”
- The ache behind the eyes that’s been holding back tears for years.
As you allow these sensations without judgment, the energy of trauma begins to move. The body completes what it couldn’t finish back then. This is how the loop begins to dissolve.
Trauma stored in silence needs to be witnessed before it can be released.

Step 3: Generate New Energy
Once the old energy discharges, there’s space to create something new. This is where healing transforms into liberation.
You begin to cultivate new emotional states — calm, curiosity, self-trust — through breathwork, visualization, movement, and energetic clearing.
This phase rewires the nervous system to recognize safety and expansion as normal. You learn to tolerate more pleasure, ease, and joy without shutting down.
It’s also where identity begins to shift. You stop living as the one who survived and start embodying the one who’s free.
The question here becomes:
“If I’m no longer defined by my trauma, who am I now?”
The answer unfolds through practice, not perfection — through the lived experience of energy moving differently in your system.

Step 4: Embrace Your Expansion
The final stage is integration — learning to live outside the cage.
Expansion can feel uncomfortable at first. When you’ve been confined for years, freedom can seem destabilizing. Your nervous system may test it: Is it really safe to be this open?
That’s normal. True freedom takes practice.
Embracing your expansion means continuing to ground into your body as your capacity grows. You’ll notice subtle markers of transformation:
- You pause instead of react.
- You say no without guilt.
- You rest without fear.
- You let yourself be seen.
This is the point where healing turns into embodiment — when safety is no longer something you chase, but something you are.

How the CAGE Method Reveals Hidden Trauma Loops
Trauma loops run on repetition: a trigger activates a memory, which fuels a belief, which drives a behavior, which reaffirms the original fear.
The CAGE Method interrupts this pattern at every level — somatic, emotional, and energetic.
- Confront exposes the loop.
- Acknowledge allows its charge to move.
- Generate replaces survival energy with vitality.
- Embrace integrates the shift so it becomes your new baseline.
This method isn’t theoretical — it’s experiential. Over time, the nervous system stops defaulting to defense and starts aligning with authenticity.
The result is not just less pain, but more presence.
Why the CAGE Method Works When Other Approaches Don’t
Many healing modalities stop at insight — understanding why you are the way you are. But awareness without integration can create more frustration than freedom.
The CAGE Method goes further. It’s grounded in the neuroscience of trauma, the wisdom of somatic therapy, and the energetics of spiritual transformation.
It doesn’t separate the mind from the body or the spirit from the science. It unites them — because real change requires all of you.
Freedom as a Daily Practice
Healing is not a one-time breakthrough. It’s a lifelong relationship with presence.
When you live the CAGE Method, you stop performing wholeness and start embodying it.
You deserve ALL good. Not some. Not a few. But ALL good.
And if someone hasn’t told you yet, I love you.
